Policies and Positions

The Heart of the League

Our Policies and Positions guide our work in every way. We invite you to explore these foundational documents.

Learn MoreThis editor is similar to a word processor on your computer. Highlight the text you want to replace with your mouse, and then type over the existing text. To replace an image, right click on the image until a popup menu appears. Select "change image" from this menu and follow the on screen instructions. You can either replace an image from your computer, or select an existing uploaded image.

When typing in this editor, avoid using <enter> or <return> by itself. If you want a line break or carriage return, always press shift+enter or shift+return. This will ensure formatting and avoid any formatting errors. If something does not look correct, do not press save at the bottom of the screen. Cancel and start over. After your changes are acceptable, press "save".

Our Policies

There are two overarching policies
that we abide by in the League.

Nonpartisan Policy

The League is nonpartisan in that it does not support or oppose any political party or candidate for public office. It is political in that it promotes League-supported public policy issues.

DEI Policy

We have adopted the National League of Women Voters policy. LWV is an organization fully committed to diversity, equity, and inclusion in principle and in practice. Diversity, equity, and inclusion are central to the organization’s current and future success in engaging all individuals, households, communities, and policy makers in creating a more perfect democracy.

Our Positions

In the League of Women Voters, positions are adopted at the national, state, and local levels. Positions are developed by study and then adopted by consensus.

These are the Positions in Brief adopted by the League of Women Voters of Snohomish County that describe how we support the work we do. Full positions can be found in the Member documents.

How Positions Are Determined

There are steps a League takes to hold a position:
  1. Perform a study
  2. Obtain consensus from members
  3. Modify our position
  4. Take action using the new position
By clicking the link below, you can see an example of how we modified our position on homelessness in 2020 using consensus.
