The WA State Redistricting Commission failed to meet its November 15 deadline. While the Commission did not adopt the required redistricting plan, they did approve Legislative and Congressional maps. You can view these maps
here.
It is now up to the Washington State Supreme Court to complete the work. It is not clear whether the court will use or reference the approved maps. With a deadline of April 30, 2022, there are serious implications for next year's elections.
Our League has decided to hold a follow-up conversation with members of our local Redistricting Team and any interested folks who attended our Speak Up Schools this past year. How can we keep this from happening in the future? Let's talk about it, and begin to build a plan to change our process. We will be joined by Alison McCaffree, Redistricting Issue Chair for the League of Women Voters Washington. If you followed the Commission's work or testified to the Commissioners, we would like to hear from you.
