The LWV Snohomish County Natural Resources Committee shared its Program of Work at the LWVWA Convention on June 25. Kate Lunceford, Carol McMahon and Joan Smith addressed three components of the Program through a
PowerPoint presentation. Marjie Fields and Vicki Roberts-Gassler fielded technical issues and handled questions in the chat.
Joan spoke to the benefits of trees as a key method of climate change mitigation and stressed the need for a more substantial inclusion of their powerful work in addressing the encroachment of development.
Kate outlined the structure of the Program of Work with its key purposes of Education, Advocacy and Partnering and gave some of the League positions behind this work. She briefly described the steps already taken at the County level with the docket process aiming for a change to the Comprehensive Plan through an Evergreen Community policy adoption.
Carol McMahon expanded with more details on the need for mapping, especially to support equity, partnerships that are forming and future education efforts. The caucus closed with participant questions and references to links for further information.
The caucus presentation enthusiastically encouraged others around the state to “Become an Evergreen Community!”
