The Constitutional Change for a Livable Future: The Green Amendment Tour aims to educate residents and legislators about the values of a
Green Amendment for Washington State and to talk about how folks can get involved. Seattle will host the kickoff event on Sept. 14, 2:00 P.M. to 5:00 P.M. at the Old Stove Brewing Company for a six-city talking tour spanning Washington State, sparking the launch of a statewide education and advocacy town hall tour that seeks to secure constitutional protection for environmental rights in the state’s constitution.
Green Amendments founder Maya van Rossum is a dynamic speaker who will be ready to answer questions from the audience. She is not taking any payment for these events. It is entirely volunteer driven.
LWVWA supported the amendment in
HJR 4210: Adding a new section to the Washington State Constitution regarding the conservation and protection of the state's natural resources in the 2023/24 Legislature. This amendment recognizes and elevates our right to clean air and water and a stable climate to an inalienable standard. It sets a foundation for sustainable practices and reinforces the responsibility of the state to safeguard the environment for the benefit of its citizens. The amendment will provide broad guidance that ensures government decision-making - substantively and procedurally. It considers environmental impacts early in the process when prevention of pollution, degradation, and environmental harm is most possible.
