League of Women Voters of Snohomish County and Futurewise contributed an
op/ed in the Daily Herald in support of the adoption of the
Urban Tree Canopy Policy (pg. 741) in the Comprehensive Plan Update. Futurewise and the Climate Alliance of Snohomish County rallied over 100 comments urging adoption of the policy at its hearing before the Snohomish County Council on Aug. 19th. LWVSC
gathered endorsements from 34 state and local organizations and leaders in support of the policy. LWVSC, LWVWA, Pilchuck Audubon Society, and several people spoke eloquently at the hearing (also see the article about the field trip to council in this issue of the Voter). The vote will be held in September. The policy will create programs that support natural climate solutions to combat climate change and ensure economic and social justice. It’s a good start.
