Mature Forest Protection in Snohomish County Update

The coming election leaves doubt on how to focus advocacy to protect mature forests on public lands in Snohomish County. There will be a new Public Lands Commissioner, and the Legislature will look different. The Senate Natural Resources Committee will have new leadership that might provide opportunities with bills or policy that may change forest management. The governor’s race will determine who is appointed to the governor’s seat on the WA Board of Natural Resources. The lawsuits by Legacy Forest Defense Coalition (LFDC) may help shift forest management through court action.
LFDC is working on a forest management plan for us to bring to the Snohomish County Council. Our county council has shown interest in participating in management of forest lands and sent this
letter to the Dept. of Natural Resources requesting information of forest on public lands.
LWVSC has begun listening sessions to hear information and concerns from folks receiving timber revenue. We hope to develop trust in the community that we can find win-win solutions to forest management.
